What are Milia?
Milia feel like small raised bumps or spots that you can feel on your skin. They feel harder than spots and are white or slightly yellow, they often appear around the eyes, and cheeks but can occur anywhere including the groin and genital area. Milia do not have any inflammation or redness so are unlike spots in that respect and can occur on their own or in a cluster.
How is Milia Caused?
These small cyst-like bumps are simply caused by a build up of the naturally occurring keratin. They are more common as we age as the cells do not renew as quickly making build up more likely. Milia are not harmful but they can be uncomfortable and lower self confidence especially if they are located on the face.
