Acne is one of the most common skin conditions and can have a huge effect on confidence if the acne is pronounced and especially when it is on the face. The Skin Specialist Nurse offers a range of acne treatments depending on the type and severity of the acne you have.

What is Acne?

Acne can present in a number of ways and can cause long term scarring. Acne normally presents as black heads, white heads and puss filled spots that can be uncomfortable and have an impact on self-confidence. Normally starting at puberty (although adult acne is also quite common) these spots can be on the face, back, neck and chest.

Acne is caused when the pores of the skin become clogged, this then makes those pores overproduce a naturally occurring oil called sebum which along with the clogged pores causes the acne. The most common reason for acne is hormonal changes (which is why it is prevalent in teens) it is often hereditary and can also be caused by dietary factors and certain medication.

As there are many different types of acne, a skin consultation and then personalised treatment plan is needed to get the best results for your type of acne. Different types of acne include:

  • Acne Cosmetica
  • Acne Rosacea
  • Acne Vulgaris
  • Adult Acne
  • Back Acne
  • Cystic Acne
  • Acne Scarring

Acne Treatments

Once your skin consultation is complete then a treatment will be offered depending on your specific type of acne. For mild acne Medi Facials can have a great impact on the condition of your skin and help reduce mild acne symptoms. For mild and severe acne skin peels can be offered and for acne scarring microneedling can reduce the scar tissue. These are just some of the options available to treat acne.
