What is tear trough filler?

Tear trough filler is a procedure whereby a hyularonic acid gel is carefully injected under the eye region to fill out under eye hollows. At The Skin Specialist Nurse, located in Buckingham and Milton Keynes, we use Teosyal Redensity ll; a filler that is specifically designed for the tear trough area. Teosyal Redensity II contains a mixture of cross-linked and non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, which gives it viscoelastic properties allowing the product to flow evenly within the skin of the eye area, restoring thickness to the skin with less chance of over-filling and minimal swelling is present after treatment.

Not only are we injecting hyularonic acid to help restore volume, the product also contains eight amino acids; Glycine, Lysine, Threonine, Proline, Isoleucine, Leucine, Valine, and Arginine; three antioxidants, Glutathione, N-acetyl-L-cysteine, and Alpha-lipoic Acid; two minerals, Zinc and Copper; and vitamin B6. These ingredients help restructure and regenerate skin cells while protecting them from oxidation, helping to improve the skin’s quality.

How do I know if I am suitable?

You are likely a good candidate for this procedure if you are noticing under eye hollows which may be creating a shadow. It isn’t suitable for everyone however so if you suffer from poor lymphatic drainage and suffer from ‘puffy’ under eyes or poor skin laxity then tear trough filler would not be a good option.

When will I see results and how long do results last?

Results can be seen immediately after the treatment but we will also recommend that you allow 2-4 weeks for the filler to fully integrate and for any minor swelling to subside.

Results typically can last between 6-18 months as this is an area of the face that does not experience a lot of movement. The duration of results can also be dependant on the individual and various other factors.

How many sessions do I need?

The number of treatments you require will vary depending on the severity of the hollowing but as a guide you will usually only have 1 session.. in some cases you may need to return for a further session if you have significant hollowing but you will usually see improvement from the first session.

It is possible that you may be advised to have cheek filler prior to your tear trough filler, this is because it is common to notice  a loss of volume in the mid face which can be a contributing factor to developing the tear trough.

Is the procedure painful?

At The Skin Specialist Nurse clinics in Buckingham and Milton Keynes we use a cannula method which helps to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible and helps to minimise risks of bruising and swelling. Some mild discomfort can be felt at the time of injection but numbing cream can be applied beforehand, plus the filler being injected contains Lidocaine, an anesthetic that provides comfort by numbing the skin.

Do I need a consultation?

Yes, we will always carry out an initial consultation before going ahead with the treatment. This is to allow us to discuss your medical history, determine your suitability, provide you with full information on the treatment and ensure you are aware of all the potential risks and side effects. You are not obligated to have treatment on the day of consultation. The consultation will be held at one of our discreet clinic locations in Buckingham or Milton Keynes.
